Targeting is the second stage of the SEGMENT "Target" POSITION (STP) process. After the market has been separated into its segments, the marketer will select a segment or series of segments and 'target' it/them.

Targeted Traffic:
Targeted Traffic consists of preselected visitors arriving at a website who have already expressed an interest in the site's subject.

Content targeting is a different form of paid inclusion than the normal keyword based search queries.

What is Targeted Traffic?
Targeted traffic is to websites what qualified sales leads are to salespeople. These are people who deliberately visit a site through a link that determines a visitor's needs before they click.

Targeting
After the process of segmentation the next step is for the organisation to decide how it is going to target these particular group(s). There are three targeting options an organisation can adopt.
Option 1.

Target Audience
[1] A group of people that is expected to buy a particular product or service.
[2] A specified audience or demographic group for which an advertising message is designed.

Target Market Selection
Lists criteria for selecting target market segments and presents five target market strategies.

Target Market The customer group that a retailer seeks to attract and satisfy.
Terms of Occupancy Include ownership versus leasing, the type of lease, operations and maintenance costs, taxes, zoning restrictions, and voluntary regulations.

Target Margin on Sales - the desired profit on each sale; used to determine the selling price where the average total cost is known.
Target Market - the group whose needs and wants the company wishes to satisfy.

Target Population:
A population with specific characteristics that researchers are studying.

Targeted Advertising
A form of advertising whereby advertisements are placed so as to reach consumers based on various traits such as demographics, purchase history, or observed behavior.

Target Marketing - The process of selling goods and services to a group of people who have a common interest. This term is identical to niche marketing.

The process of distinguishing the different groups that make up a market, and developing appropriate products and marketing mixes for each target market involved.
