Above average
The National Climate Centre uses the words " above average" in its seasonal outlooks to indicate above median seasonal rainfall or temperature values. This is a value in the upper half of values (by count of years).
Above Average: The departure from normal which is: The longterm average of an element (Temperature: Rainfall: Snowfall: Etc:) for a specific location.
Positive SOI values indicate increased probability of above average rainfall over northern and eastern Australia.
An average that is calculated according to specific criteria. For example, one might want a composite for the rainfall at a given location for all years where the temperature was much above average.

Other problems could be found in the Gulf states, as severe weather was above average.
For the contiguous United States, potential impacts include above average precipitation in the Northern Rockies, Northern California, and in southern and eastern regions of the Pacific Northwest.
