Airstream

Meteorology Air-mass ThunderstormAlbedo

Airstream- A significant body of air flowing in the same general circulation.
Albedo- The percentage of light reflected by an object. Snow covered areas have a high albedo (0.9 or 90%) due to their white color.

The prevailing westerly airstream leads to a West Coast and highlands that are cool, wet and cloudy and an East Coast and lowlands that are milder, drier and sunnier.

CONFLUENCE- A 2-D process in which airstreams move toward each other at some angle.
CONQ- Converging Q vectors. Indicates air will rises due to low level warm air advection and/or upper level divergence ...

When an airstream of Polar or Arctic air, an air-mass called continental polar air (cP), crosses relatively warm water it will pick up heat and moisture from the water surface. Meteorologists say the air becomes 'unstable' or is 'destabilized'.

cloud gun"A device for airborne or ground-based use that exposes a soot-coated glass slide for an instant to a cloudy airstream.

Clouds having a lens or almond shape, usually elongated and with well-defined outlines. Occurs when a moist airstream crosses a mountain barrier, resulting in waves in the flow.

Jet Stream - Swift geostrophic airstreams in the upper troposphere that meander in relatively narrow belts.

Conveyor-belt model A three-dimensional depiction of fronts and cyclones in terms of three interacting airstreams, often referred to as conveyor belts. ...

Larger bodies may project through the layer, and retard the wind by form drag like any large body in an airstream.

The letters 'X', 'Y' and 'Z' are reserved for those features that are expected to be short-lived, for example, a polar low forming to the North-west of Scotland in a North-westerly airstream may be given such a letter, ...
