arcus"(Often called roll or shelf cloud.) A dense and horizontal roll cloud or wedge-shaped accessory cloud, sometimes appearing ragged and turbulent and other times smooth, occasionally with multiple layers.

Arcus Cloud - A low, horizontal cloud formation associated with a thunderstorm's outflow. The air from a thunderstorm can fan out in 360ยบ. So, a cloud formed from this rush air can be in the shape of a smooth curve.
Arcus - A low, horizontal cloud formation associated with the leading edge of thunderstorm outflow (i.e., the gust front). Roll clouds and shelf clouds both are types of arcus clouds.
Arcus (Arc Cloud) A dense, arched-shaped, menacing-looking accessory cloud to a cumulonimbus that can occur along the leading edge of a thunderstorm's gust front as the consequence of uplift of stable warm air. Same as a shelf cloud.

Shelf Cloud: A low, horizontal wedge-shaped arcus cloud, associated with a thunderstorm gust front (or occasionally with a cold front, even in the absence of thunderstorms).

The nine supplementary features and accessory clouds are incus, mamma, virga, praecipitatio, arcus, tuba, pileus, velum, and pannus. (Note: Although these are Latin words, it is proper convention to use only the singular endings, e.g.
Roll cloud A dense, roll-shaped cloud attached to the lower front part of the main cloud. It often forms with thunderstorms along the leading edge of a gust front. Also called an arcus cloud.
