Arid climate An extremely dry climate - drier than the semi-arid climate. Often referred to as a "true desert" climate.
Desert Climate (Arid Climate) A climatic type which is characterized by insufficient moisture to support appreciable plant life.
These plants generally have adapted to more arid climates in establishing powerful root systems which can lift water from great depths. The root systems of some phreatophytes have been traced to the depths of 45 feet.
Steppe One of the two types of dry climate. A marginal and more humid variant of the desert that separates it from bordering humid climates. Steppe also refers to the short-grass vegetation associated with this semiarid climate.
