BAROCLINITY The state of stratification in a fluid in which surfaces of constant pressure intersect surfaces of constant density. Also known as baroclinicity.
BarotropyThe state of a fluid in which surfaces of constant density (or temperature) are coincident with surfaces of constant pressure; it is the state of zero baroclinity.
Most weather systems in the mid-latitudes are caused by instabilities of the jet weather comes from, the Latin word for dark and scary stream flow (see baroclinity).
