Meteorology Barometric PressureBarotropic

Barometric Tendency The amount and direction of change in barometer readings over a three-hour period.

barometric tendency—The change of barometric pressure within a specified period of time. In aviation weather observations, routinely determined periodically, usually for a 3-hour period.
beam resolution—See resolution.

Pressure tendency (barometric tendency) The character and amount of atmospheric pressure change for a three-hour or other specified period ending at the time of observation.

PRESSURE TENDENCY: (BAROMETRIC TENDENCY) The change in barometric pressure within a specified period of time (typically 3 hours for meteorological observations).

These values can be contoured just like the pressure itself, and the lines ∂p/∂t = constant are called isallobars, lines of constant barometric tendency. Rates of change of pressure contour just like pressure itself, with highs and lows.
