Meteorology ConductionConfluent

Confluence - A pattern of wind flow in which air flows inward toward an axis oriented parallel to the general direction of flow. It is the opposite of difluence. Confluence is not the same as convergence.

CONFLUENCE- A 2-D process in which air streams move toward each other at some angle.
CONQ- Converging Q vectors. Indicates air will rise due to low level warm air advection and/or upper level divergence ...

confluence - The rate at which adjacent flow is converging along an axis oriented normal to the flow at the point in question. It is the opposite of diffluence.

CONFLUENCE A rate at which wind flow comes together along an axis oriented normal to the flow in question. The opposite of diffluence.

Confluence - A pattern of wind flow in which winds converge along an axis oriented parallel to the flow along the axis; a form of convergence. Compare with difluence.
Congestus (or Cumulus Congestus ) - Same as towering cumulus.

CONFLUENCE - Flow convergence of a fluid stream towards the axis of the stream. Commonly used for convergence environments and upper air analysis. May also be called CONVERGENCE.

The opposite of confluence. DIFFRACTION The result of light waves interfering with other after passing through a narrow aperture, causing them to bend or spread. DIRECTIONAL SHEAR The shear created by a rapid change in wind direction with height.

Backwater FloodingHydrologic terms, upstream flooding caused by downstream conditions such as channel restriction and/or high flow in a downstream confluence stream.

It is the opposite of confluence. Difluence in an upper level wind field is considered a favorable condition for severe thunderstorm development (if other parameters are also favorable). But difluence is not the same as divergence.

The "hook echo" is the area of confluence between the main updraft and the rear flank downdraft (RFD). This indicates the position of the mesocyclone.
Bounded weak echo region (or BWER) ...

Mathematically, convergence is negative divergence, and the latter term is used for both. (For mathematical treatment, see divergence).Compare confluence. 2.

Trough located next to the equator, delimiting the convergence zone of the air that moves from the subtropical regions of both hemispheres towards the equator. It is the confluence zone of the southeast and northeast trade winds.

Difluence - a pattern of wind flow in which air moves outward (in a "fan-out" pattern) away from a central axis that is oriented parallel to the general direction of the flow; opposite of confluence; ...
