Cumulus Congestus

Meteorology Cumulus CloudCumulus fractus

Cumulus Congestus An upward building convective cloud with vertical development between that of a cumulus cloud and a cumulonimbus.

Cumulus Congestus (or simply Congestus) - Same as towering cumulus.

Cumulus congestus
(CuCg, or Cu2) Latin congerere - to pile up
A large cumulus cloud with great vertical development, usually with a cauliflower-like appearance, but lacking the characteristic anvil of a Cb. Same as towering cumulus.

Cumulus Congestus- A large cumulus cloud with great vertical development, usually with a cauliflower-like appearance, but lacking the characteristic anvil shaped top of a Cb.

Congestus (or Cumulus Congestus ) - Same as towering cumulus.

Under certain atmospheric conditions, these clouds can develop into larger clouds, known as towering cumulus (cumulus congestus), and may produce a rain shower. Further development may create a cumulonimbus.

TOWERING CUMULUS Another name for cumulus congestus, it is a rapidly growing cumulus or an individual dome-shaped clouds whose height exceeds its width.

Feeder Cloud The flanking lines of developing cumulus congestus clouds that sometimes merge with and appear to intensify supercells.

Towering cumulus is also called CUMULUS CONGESTUS. The name "cumulus" means heaped or piled up. Flattened cumulus clouds with bases wider than their heights are sometimes called STRATOCUMULUS. Cumulus is abbreviated as CU.

On a fine summer day, with fluffy cumulus congestus clouds, there is a vigorous tumult in the air, that would be conspicuous if we could see it.

a low cloud that develops from the bottom up. Appear white and puffy, with a cauliflower-like top. Small ones are associated with fair weather(cumulus humilis), but as they grow vertically, they can produce rain showers (cumulus congestus).

A saddle-back is the cloudless, quiet air overlying a lower cloud deck but between two towering cumulus congestus or cumulonimbus clouds.

It has a flat base with a bulging upper part that often resembles cauliflower. Cumulus clouds of fair weather are called cumulus humilis. Those that exhibit much vertical growth are called cumulus congestus or towering cumulus.

The bases are flat and usually appear darker than the bases of fair weather cumulus. They show considerable vertical development and have billowing "cauliflower" tops. Showers can result from these clouds. Same as cumulus congestus.

This type of weather is only found in the hearts of the trade wind areas. Towards the equator the heating of the seawater causes the air to become unstable and form large convective clouds like cumulus congestus.
