Cut-off low The cut-off low is a cold low (depression) in mid-latitudes (occasionally almost in subtropical latitudes) where air of polar origin is cut off from the main subpolar belt of low pressure and cold air, ...
CUT-OFF LOW- Closed lows that become cut-off from the main flow pattern are called cut-off lows. Click here for a cut-off low example. CWA- County Warning Area CYCLONE- This is in reference to a low pressure system.
Cut-off low A closed low which has become completely displaced (cut off) from the basic westerly current which flows across Australia's southern oceans, and moves independently of that current (not including Tropical cyclones).
CUT-OFF LOW A closed cold core low completely removed from the primary westerly flow. Cutoff lows may remain detached from the westerlies for days while exhibiting very little forward (eastward) progress.
cut-off low - A cold low that has grown out of a trough and become displaced out of the basic westerly current and lies equatorward of this current. See cutting-off process, cut-off high, cold pool.
Cut-Off Low - An upper level low pressure system that is no longer in the normal west to east upper air flow. Usually a cut-off low will lie to the South of the established upper air flow.
" A form of cut-off low. CLOUD A visible collection of minute particle matter, such as water droplets and/or ice crystals, in the free air. A cloud forms in the atmosphere as a result of condensation of water vapor in rising currents of air.
CLOSED LOW (CUT OFF LOW) - A low pressure center having a closed circulation, which is used in reference to systems in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Closed lows that become cut off from the main flow pattern are called cut-off lows.
