datum"For marine applications, a base elevation used as a reference from which to reckon heights or depths. It is called a tidal datum when defined in terms of a certain phase of the tide.

Gage Datum - permalink - collapse
All > Science > Weather
A horizontal surface used as a zero point for measurement of stage or gage height.

Zero Datum
In hydrologic terms, a reference "zero" elevation for a stream or river gage. This "zero" can be referenced (usually within ten feet of the bottom of the channel) to mean sea level, or to any other recognized datum.

Zero Datum A reference "zero" elevation for a stream or river gage. This "zero" can be referenced (usually within ten feet of the bottom of the channel) to mean sea level, or to any other recognized datum.

Gage Datum: The arbitrary zero datum elevation which all stage measurements are made from.

The datum against which land elevation and sea depth are measured.
Sea level pressure(6)
The atmospheric pressure at mean sea level.

Gage DatumA horizontal surface used as a zero point for measurement of stage or gage height.

Sea Level The datum against which land elevation and sea depth are measured. Mean sea level is the average of high and low tides.

Australian Height Datum (AHD)
In 1971 the mean sea level for 1966-1968 was assigned the value of zero on the Australian Height Datum at thirty tide gauges around the coast of the Australian continent.

StageThe level of the water surface of a river or stream above an established datum at a given location.

MLLW(Mean Lower Low Water) - A tidal datum. The average of the lower low water height of each tidal day observed over the National Tidal Datum Epoch.

Stage The elevation of the water surface in a stream as measured by a river gauge with reference to some arbitrarily selected zero datum.

The location of the jet stream is an extremely important datum for airlines.

stage - The level of the water surface in a stream, river, or reservoir, measured with reference to some datum.
stand - The condition at high water or low water when there is no change in the height of the tide. Compare slack water.
