doldrums"(Also called equatorial calms.) A nautical term for the equatorial trough, with special reference to the light and variable nature of the winds. Compare horse latitudes; see equatorial air.

doldrums: area near equator that experiences low pressures and light shifting winds.

DOLDRUMS Located between 30 degrees North and 30 degrees South latitudes in the vicinity of the equator, this area typically has calm or light and variable winds. Also a nautical term for the equatorial trough.

Doldrums- the regions on either side of the equator where air pressure is low and winds are light.

Doldrums
(Equatorial Calms) Zone of calms or light variable winds, in the lower atmospheric layers.

Doldrums - The equatorial belt of cairns or light variable winds lying between the two trade-wind belts.
Doppler Radar - A type of radar that has the capacity of detecting motion direction.

Doldrums An east-west belt of light and variable surface winds where the trade winds of the two hemisphere converge.

doldrums—The equatorial belt of calm or light and variable winds between the two tradewind belts. Compare intertropical convergence zone.

Doldrums Region near the equator characterized by low pressure and light shifting winds. See wind.

Doldrums: The equatorial belt of calms or light winds, variable in direction, between the two systems of trade winds.
Drizzle: Minute droplets of water (less than 0.5 mm [1/50 inch] in diameter), uniformly disperse, which precipitate on the earth.

Doldrums
The equatorial oceanic regions of calms and light variable winds, accompanied by heavy rains, thunderstorms and squalls.

Doldrums
The area of light winds within 10 degrees of the equator.

Early sailors named this belt of calm the doldrums because of the low spirits they found themselves in after days of no wind.
