The warming of an air flow as it descends a hill or mountain slope.
The downpour occurred at what is normally a relatively dry time of year in Sydney.
High wind gusts and heavy downpours often occur in individual rainbands, with relatively calm weather between bands. Tornadoes often form in the rainbands of landfalling tropical cyclones.
Downpour: A sudden fall of heavy rain.
Downwind: When walking the wind will be from your back moving away from you.
Drifting snow: Snow lifted by the wind and carried to a height of less than 6 feet.
A Flash Flood Watch may be issued for potential flooding from either dam breaks, ice jam breaks, or torrential downpours. They are usually issued up to 12 hours prior to a possible flash flood event.

Flash floods may result from such things as torrential downpours, dam breaks, or ice jam breaks. They are issued by the local National Weather Service Office for 4 hours or less.

MUGGY A subjective term for warm and excessively humid weather.
It is not frequent, occurring only in March. In the Swiss- French Alps it is locally termed labech, and is squally with thunder, hail, and brief torrential downpours; it comes mainly in autumn and winter.
An intense squall line (Fig 1.3) preceding a rapidly moving cold front raced across Florida with torrential downpours, wind gusts in excess of 40 m/s, 3-4 meter storm surges and 11 confirmed tornado touchdowns (Radar Loop (QT-800K)).
Such thunderstorms are not generally associated with fronts and are less likely to become severe than other types of thunderstorms. However, that does not preclude them from having brief heavy downpours.
