Enhanced V - A pattern seen on satellite infrared photographs of thunderstorms, in which a thunderstorm anvil exhibits a V-shaped region of colder cloud tops extending downwind from the thunderstorm core.

 


ENHANCED V - Name given to a well defined V NOTCH feature on a radar (or even a satellite) image of an often supercell thunderstorm.

This term should not be confused with inflow notch or with enhanced V, although the latter is believed to form by a similar process.

The V-notch often is seen on supercells, and is thought to be a sign of diverging flow around the main storm updraft (and hence a very strong updraft). This term should not be confused with inflow notch or with enhanced V, ...
