The Global Forecast System (GFS) is global numerical weather prediction model run by NOAA.

 


Global Forecast System (GFS) NCEP MRF and AVN forecast models were combined into a single system and renamed the Global Forecast System (GFS). The GFS produces forecasts out to 16 days, four times per day.

GFS (Global Forecast System) - One of the operational forecast models run at NCEP. The GFS is run four times daily, with forecast output out to 240 hours. The current operational run has a horizontal resolution of 40 km.

Global Forecast System (GFS)
A global weather model which is compiled and run by NCEP in the USA and made available for distribution around the world.

GFS: Global Forecast System. Successor to Aviation and MRF models run by NCEP four times a day out to 384 hours.

A zonal wind with a constant wind speed in the upper troposphere in the middle latitudes is an example of a geostrophic wind.

AViatioN model; one of the operational forecast previously models run at NCEP. The AVN has been superseded by the Global Forecast System (GFS).
