Growing Degree Days The number of degrees that the average temperature is above a baseline value. For example, 40°F for canning purposes; 45°F for potatoes; and 50°F for sweet corn, snap beans, lima beans, tomatoes, grapes, and field corn.

 


Growing Degree Days - A heat index that relates the development of plants, insects, and disease organisms to environmental air temperature. The index varies depending on whether it is a cool, warm, or very warm season plant.

Growing Degree Day- A form of degree day to estimate the approximate dates when a crop will be ready to harvest.
