**Heat Index**
The heat index is the combination of the temperature and the relative humidity. When combing these two the result is how hot the air feels.
Following is a table which can be used to calculate the heat index.

Heat Index: The Heat Index (HI) or the "Apparent Temperature" is an accurate measure of how hot it really feels when the Relative Humidity (RH) is added to the actual air temperature.

Heat Index (HI) - a value that represents the temperature it actually feels at a given air temperature and relative humidity ...

HEAT INDEX The combination of air temperature and humidity that gives a description of how the temperature feels. This is not the actual air temperature. Related term: Heat Index Chart ...

Heat index
The apparent temperature increase caused by the combination of high temperatures and high relative humidity. High humidity reduces the rate of evaporation of perspiration from the skin and thus reduces the cooling effect.

HEAT INDEX: An index that combines air temperature and humidity to give an apparent temperature (eg. how hot it "feels"). Here is a heat index formula originally from Weatherwise magazine. It gives valid results above 70 deg. F. (-42.379+2.

Heat Index: temperature that describes how hot it feels taking into account high air temperatures and high humidity levels.

Heat index (HI) An index that combines air temperature and relative humidity to determine an apparent temperature-how hot it actually feels.
Heat of fusion Heat released when water changes phase from liquid to solid; 80 calories per gram ...

HEAT INDEX - The HI is the temperature the body feels when the heat and humidity are combined.
HEAT LOW - The thermal induced surface low pressure trough that develops during the warm season in the lee of the Cascades.

Heat Index The National Weather Service provides public advisories and warnings when the combination of temperature and humidity becomes high enough to pose a health risk.

Heat Index - (Apparent Temperature) - This index is an accurate measure of how hot it feels (in degrees) when moisture (relative humidity) is added to the actual air temperature.

HEAT INDEX: Also known as the Apparent temperature, it is a non-physical value which combines the effect of the air temperature and amount of moisture in the air to illustrate how it "feels." ...

Heat Index- This index is a measure of the contribution that high humidity makes with abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body's ability to cool itself.
Heat Lightning- Lightning that can be seen, but is too far away to be heard.

Heat Index - It's the ‘feel like' temperature on a hot day. The heat index is a number that expresses the warming effect of humidity at different temperatures. Only air temperature and relative humidity are used in the calculation of heat index.

HEAT INDEX - Apparent temperature air feels depending on the humidity. Higher humidities make the air "feel" warmer because perspiration does not evaporate as readily to cool the skin in higher humidities.

It gives the current weather condition in one word (cloudy, rain, snow, fog, etc.), the temperature and dew point in Fahrenheit, the relative humidity, wind speed and direction, and finally additional information (wind chill, heat index, ...

Heat indexAn index that combines air temperature and humidity to give an apparent temperature (how hot it feels). Heat islandA dome of elevated temperatures over an urban area caused by the heat absorbed by structures and pavement.

Heat AdvisoryIssued within 12 hours of the onset of the following conditions: heat index of at least 105°F but less than 115°F for less than 3 hours per day, or nighttime lows above 80°F for 2 consecutive days.

The "Heat Index" is a measure of the effect of the combined elements on the body.

Growing Degree Days - A heat index that relates the development of plants, insects, and disease organisms to environmental air temperature. The index varies depending on whether it is a cool, warm, or very warm season plant.

The Apparent Temperature (AT) - Heat Index
The apparent temperature (AT), invented in the late 1970s, was designed to measure thermal sensation in indoor conditions. It was extended in the early 1980s to include the effect of sun and wind.

Issued within 12 hours of the onset of the following criteria: heat index of at least 105?ĮŽ?F for more than 3 hours per day for 2 consecutive days, or heat index more than 115?ĮŽ?F for any period of time.
Excessive Heat Watch ...

Heat Advisory- Issued when heat index is expected to reach at least 100F but less than 105F, or when nighttime lows are expected to remain above 80F.

KestrelŪ 3000 Wind Instrument This instrument measures wind speed, wind chill, humidity, heat index, dew point, and temperature. Go to the Wind & Weather catalogue, click on Wind Gauges section, or click on Amazon.com ad below.

Excessive Heat Warning: This product is issued by the National Weather Service when excessive heat is life threatening. The criteria for this warning varies from state to state. In Michigan, the criteria is a heat index of 115 degree F or higher ...

heat index).Apparent WindThe speed and true direction from which the wind appears to blow with reference to a moving point. Sometimes called RELATIVE WIND.

Apparent temperature The perceived temperature derived from either a combination of temperature and wind (wind chill) or temperature and humidity (heat index).
