High-level clouds Cirrus, Cirrocumulus and Cirrostratus are high-level clouds.

A high, high-pressure cell, or high pressure area is a region where the atmospheric pressure is greater than the surrounding area. In some countries, these regions may be referred to as anticyclones.

High and Low Pressure Systems
Introduction
Regions of sinking air are called highs, high pressure regions or anticyclones. Clear skies and fair weather usually occur in these regions.

High Risk (of severe thunderstorms) - Severe weather is expected to affect more than 10 percent of the area. A high risk is rare, and implies an unusually dangerous situation and usually the possibility of a major severe weather outbreak.

high water"(Popularly called high tide.) The maximum water level reached in a tidal cycle.

HIGH CLOUDS
A term used to signify cirriform clouds that are composed of ice crystals and generally have bases above 20,000 feet. The main types of high clouds are cirrus, cirrocumulus, and cirrostratus. This altitude applies to the temperate zone.

Horse Latitudes- subtropical regions where anticyclones produce settled weather.
Humidity- the amount of water vapor present in the air.

high clouds: clouds found between 3-8 kilometers (10000-25000 feet) in polar regions and 6-18 kilometers (20000-60000 feet) in tropical regions. Contains cirriform clouds (cirrus, cirrocumulus, and cirrostratus).

High Pressure - In the Northern Hemisphere, an area of high atmospheric pressure with a closed, clockwise movement of air (circulation). Also known as an anticylone.

High inversion fog A fog that lifts above the surface but does not completely dissipate because of a strong inversion (usually subsidence) that exists above the fog layer.

High Cloud - A cloud that normally has its base above 6000 meters; the base may be lower in winter and at high-latitude locations.

high—An area of high barometric pressure, with its attendant system of winds; an anticyclone. Also high pressure system.
hoar frost—See frost.

High Wind Watch- Issued when conditions are favorable for the development of high winds over all of or part of the forecast area but the occurrence is still uncertain.

High Wind Warning: A high wind warning is defined as 1-minute average surface winds of 35 kt (40 mph or 64 km/hr) or greater lasting for 1 hour or longer, ...

HP- High Precipitation supercell; It is a supercell with a high moisture content. Precipitation will wrap completely around the updraft region in an HP supercell. They have a kidney bean shape on radar reflectivity.

WARM HIGH
A high pressure system that has its warmest temperatures at or near the center of circulation. Contrast with a cold high.

Omega High: A blocking ridge of high pressure that forms in the middle or upper troposphere. It looks like the Greek letter omega.

Polar high Cold anticyclone that originates in a source region for continental polar air.
Polar-orbiting satellite A satellite in relatively low orbit that travels near the geographical poles on meridional trajectories.

Omega High An omega high is a ridge of high pressure which disrupts the normal westerly flow pattern across North America. On a surface or upper air map of the pressure pattern it shows up as a feature which looks like the Greek letter omega.

Bubble High - A mesoscale area of high pressure, typically associated with cooler air from the rainy downdraft area of a thunderstorm or a complex of thunderstorms. A gust front or outflow boundary separates a bubble high from the surrounding air.

BUBBLE HIGH A small high that may be created by precipitation and vertical instability associated with thunderstorm activity. A product of downdrafts, it is relatively cold and often has the characteristics of a different air mass.

Bermuda High: The semi-permanent, subtropical anticyclone located over the western North Atlantic Ocean at about 30°N.

high pressure system- an area of high barometric pressure that rotates clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and counterclockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.

HIGH: An area of high pressure around which the wind blows clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and counterclockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.
HUMIDITY: Generally the measure of the water vapor content of the air.

High- An area of higher atmospheric pressure.
Hurricane- A tropical cyclone in the western hemisphere that has sustained wind speeds of 74 miles per hour or greater.
Hydrosphere- The Earth's water.

HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM - An area of high atmospheric pressure which generally means good visibility for flying.
HORIZONTAL COMPONENT OF LIFT - Another term for centripetal force. The center-seeking force which causes an airplane to turn.

High Pressure System - A whirling mass of cool, dry air that generally brings fair weather and light winds. When viewed from above, winds spiral out of a high-pressure center in a clockwise rotation in the Northern Hemisphere. These bring sunny skies.

High clouds are primarily composed of ice crystals; Medium clouds are a mixture of water droplets (usually super-cooled) and ice crystals, in varying proportion, and low clouds primarily water droplets, ...

HIGH PRESSURE - A region of high air pressure in the atmosphere. Commonly associated with fair weather. Strong high-pressure regions may cause strong outflow winds.

See high.
Arctic sea smoke
A type of fog which is formed when cold air moves over relatively warm water.

Azores high
A semi-permanent area of high pressure often centred around the Azores in the mid-Atlantic. It is caused by the air at high levels moving out from the equatorial regions slowing down at about 30 degrees north and descending.

A summer high over the North American continent brings moist, unstable maritime tropical air from the Gulf over the Mississippi Valley. The thunderstorms that result are the principal source of moisture for this region.
