Hurricane Season
The portion of the year having a relatively high indidence of hurricanes. The hurricane season in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico runs from June 1 to November 30.

 


HURRICANE SEASON: The part of the year having a relatively high incidence of hurricanes. In the Atlantic, Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, and Central Pacific, the season is from June through November.

Hurricane Season - A six-month period from June 1 to Nov. 30, when conditions are favorable for hurricane development.
Hygrometer - An instrument that measures the water vapor content of air or the humidity.
Ice - A water substance in the solid phase.

The Hurricane season in the Atlantic is June 1 through Nov. 30th. In the Eastern and Central Pacific the season is from May 15th, through Nov. 30th

For the Atlantic Ocean, the hurricane season is June 1 to November 30. When the winds reach 74 MPH or higher, the storm becomes a hurricane. Hurricanes are rated on a Saffir-Simpson scale measures hurricane wind speeds based on structural effects.

Hurricanes also occur in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Bengal, where there are two hurricane seasons a year, corresponding with the monsoons.

In the North Atlantic, the hurricane season is from May to November, but the majority of storms occur in August, September and October.
