HURRICANE WATCH A formal advisory issued by forecasters at the National Hurricane Center when they have determined that hurricane conditions are a potential threat to a coastal area or group of islands within a 24 to 36 hour period.

Hurricane Watch - Hurricane conditions (heavy rain, tidal flooding, and winds above 75 mph) are possible within 36 hours. Prepare to take immediate action in case a warning is issued.

Hurricane Watch
An alert added to an hurricane advisory covering a specificed area and duration. A watch means that hurricane conditions are a real possibility; it does not mean they are imminent.

Inland Hurricane WatchIssued for interior counties when sustained winds of 74 mph or greater associated with a hurricane are possible within 36 hours.

The Center prepares and distributes hurricane watches and warnings for the general public, and also prepares and distributes marine and military advisories for other users. During the "off-season" NHC provides training for U.S.

Hurricane WatchAn announcement that hurricane conditions (sustained winds of 74 mph or higher) are possible within the specified coastal area.

When the weathermen decide the storm might reach land within two days, they issue a Hurricane Watch.

Meteorologists at the Tropical Prediction Center work to constantly monitor these systems as they move, issuing hurricane watches and warnings (definitions of which are placed below) with adequate time for the public to prepare.
