Icing In general, any deposit or coating of ice on an object, caused by the impingement and freezing of liquid (usually super-cooled) hydrometeors. The two basic types of icing are rime and glaze.

Light Icing The rate of ice accumulation that may create a problem if the flight is prolonged in this environment (over one hour). Occasional use of de-icing equipment removes/prevents accumulation.
Icing (/IC) is reported by type and the intensity or rate of accretion. The type of ice should be reported as CLR (clear), RIME or MXD (mixed). The intensity is reported as TR (trace), LGT (light), MDT (moderate and SVR (severe).

RIME The rapid freezing of supercooled water droplets as they touch an exposed object, forming a white opaque granular deposit of ice. It is one of the results of an ice storm, and when formed on aircraft it is called rime icing.
