Jet Streaks wind speed maxima within the jet stream
Jet streaks are localized regions of very fast winds embedded within the jet stream. Sometimes these local wind maxima reach speeds in excess of 160 knots.

JET STREAK - A strong and narrow stream of very high velocity winds in a jet stream. Called so because this region often is marked by high clouds in a narrow fast moving band as viewed on a satellite loop. See also JETMAX.
This disturbance is characterized by distinct cyclonic flow, a pocket of cold air, and sometimes a jet streak. These features make the air aloft more unstable and conducive to clouds and precipitation.

Larger mesojets may also sometimes be known as jet streaks. Mesojets can form adjacent to prominent orographic features in association with terrain-channeled flow.
It has a strong isallobaric component due to the pressure rise/fall pattern under the right exit/left exit region of the jet streak, respectively. It is usually at a significant angle with respect to the ULJ and has a strong southerly component.
Dines Compensation applies differently in the mid-latitudes, as upper-level highs are not necessarily associated with surface lows. Jet streaks and other upper level features, however, can contribute or support lower level convergence/divergence.
