Kelvin waves in the ocean always propagate with the shoreline on the right (left) in the northern (southern) hemisphere. Atmospheric Kelvin waves propagate eastward in the Northern Hemisphere. [edit] Equatorial Kelvin wave ...
Kelvin wave"A type of low-frequency gravity wave trapped to a vertical boundary, or the equator, which propagates anticlockwise (in the Northern Hemisphere) around a basin.
Kelvin Waves Fluctuations in wind speed at the ocean surface at the Equator result in eastward propagating waves, known as Kelvin Waves.

KELVIN WAVE - A surge of a fluid caused by differing densities in that fluid. Mixing of warm and cold air at different densities can produce such waves.
The westerly anomalies cause the development of a Kelvin wave in the ocean which slowly propagates eastward. During the warm phase of the SO severe drought occurs over Indonesia and Australia.
