Knot: A measure of speed. It is one nautical mile per hour. Never refer to "knots per hour" unless you want to describe acceleration.

KNOT: A unit of speed, one nautical mile per hour or approximately 1.15 statute miles per hour. The nautical mile is closely related to the geographical mile which is defined as the length of one minute of arc on the earth's equator.
