Meteorology LandsatLapse Rate

A landspout is a tornado not associated with the mesocyclone of a thunderstorm. Landspouts form during the growth stage of convective clouds by the ingestion and tightening of boundary layer vorticity by the cumuliform tower's updraft.

Landspout - [Slang], a tornado that does not arise from organized storm-scale rotation and therefore is not associated with a wall cloud (visually) or a mesocyclone (on radar).

LANDSPOUT A small, weak tornado, which is not formed by a storm-scale rotation. It is generally weaker than a supercell tornado and is not associated with a wall cloud or mesocyclone.

It may be observed beneath cumulonimbus or towering cumulus clouds and is the water equivalent of a landspout. WATER VAPOR (H2O) Water in gaseous form. It is one of the most import constituents of the atmosphere.

they are the water-based equivalent of landspouts). But there is sufficient justification for calling virtually any rotating column of air a waterspout if it is in contact with a water surface.

[Slang] A small-scale vortex initiation, such as what may be seen when a gustnado, landspout, or suction vortex forms.

In most cases the term is reserved for small vortices over water that are not associated with storm-scale rotation (i.e., they are the water-based equivalent of landspouts).

Sometimes, the vortex is detached from any cloud features above it but differs from a dust devil because the parent convection is required to support its development. Landspouts are common near thunderstorm boundaries, ...

In the central plains of the United States they are most frequent in spring during the late afternoon. See also supercell tornado, nonsupercell tornado, gustnado, landspout, waterspout. 2.
