Low Level Jet: A relatively narrow band of high-speed winds found in the lower troposphere, well below the upper troposphere where the jet stream is found.

LOW LEVEL JET (LLJ) Strong winds that are concentrated in relatively narrow bands in the lower part of the atmosphere. It is often amplified at night. The southerly wind over the US Plains states during spring and summer is a notable example.

Low level jet
(abbreviation LLJ) A region of relatively strong winds in the lower part of the atmosphere.

Low Level Jet (LLJ) It often forms at 1-1.5 km under the exit region (the place just ahead of a speed maximum) of an upper-level jet (ULJ) streak.

Low Level Jet - A jet stream that is typically found in the lower 2-3 km, or approximately 6,000 to 9, 500 feet, of the troposphere.

LLJ- Low Level Jet. Strong Planetary Boundary Layer winds which advect warmer temperatures and moisture into the forecast area.

LLJ - Low Level Jet. A strong wind aloft but confined to the lower levels of the atmosphere.

LLJLow Level Jet - A region of relatively strong winds in the lower part of the atmosphere.

They are often associated with the strengthening of the low level jet and are most common over the Plains states. They also occur over warm water and may be associated with the seaward extent of the overnight land breeze.

and orientation of jetstreams vary from day to day. General weather patterns (hot/cold, wet/dry) are related closely to the position, strength and orientation of the jetstream (or jetstreams). A jetstream at low levels is known as a low level jet.

by the changes in air temperature where the cold polar air moving towards the equator meets the warmer equatorial air moving polarward. It is marked by a concentration of isotherms and strong vertical shear. Related terms: arctic jet, low level jet, ...

shear, and development or evolution of nearby jet streams (including low-level jets). This product often is referred to erroneously as a VAD.
