MAGNETIC POLES
Either of the two points on the earth's surface where the magnetic meridians converge. They are not aligned with the geographical poles, but shift and do not lie exactly opposite of the other.

 


Also known as the southern lights; the luminous, radiant emission from the upper atmosphere over middle and high latitudes, and centred around the earth's magnetic poles.

auroral zone"An approximately circular region around the two geomagnetic poles within which there is a maximum of auroral activity. It lies about ten to fifteen degrees of geomagnetic latitudes from the geomagnetic poles.

aurora—A luminous, radiant emission over middle and high latitudes confined to the thin air of high altitudes and centered over the earth's magnetic poles.

It is seen as a bright display of constantly changing light near the magnetic poles of each hemisphere.
