Mercury barometer

Meteorology Mercurial BarometerMeridian

Mercury barometer A mercury-filled glass tube in which the height of the mercury column is a measure of air pressure.

mercury barometer"(Or mercurial barometer; formerly called Torricelli's tube.) A glass manometer, employing mercury in its vertical column, that is used to measure atmospheric pressure.

Mercury Barometer: The most common form of liquid barometer designed on the principle that the downward pressure of the air's weight will support a column of liquid mercury in an inverted, evacuated glass tube.

Mercury Barometer
An instrument for measuring atmospheric pressure. The instrument contains an evacuated and graduated glass tube in which mercury rises or falls as the pressure of the atmosphere increases or decreases.

Mercury barometer A mercury-filled tube used to measure air pressure; the standard barometric instrument, which features great precision.

Mercury Barometer- An instrument that measures barometric pressure by measuring the level of mercury in a column.

Mercury barometers
A standard mercury barometer has a glass column of about 30 inches (about 76 cm) in height, closed at one end, with an open mercury-filled reservoir at the base.

Mercury barometer - uses a vacuum tube filled with mercury to respond to the pressure change, and markings to indicate the value.

Capacity correction The correction applied to a mercury barometer with a nonadjustable cistern in order to compensate for the change in level of the cistern as the atmospheric pressure changes.

A standard mercury barometer has a glass column about 30 inches long, closed at one end, with a mercury-filled reservoir. Air pressure is usually measured in millibars or in inches of mercury.

A device used to measure atmospheric pressure. The two most common barometers are the mercury barometer and the aneroid barometer. The mercury barometer was initially developed by Evangelista Torricelli in 1644.
