MIXED LAYER It is the upper portion of the boundary layer in which air is thoroughly mixed by convection. In oceanography, it is the layer of the water that is mixed through wave action or thermohaline convection.

Mixed Layer
An atmospheric layer, usually the layer immediately above the ground, in which pollutants are well mixed by convective or shear-produced turbulence.
Mixed Precipitation ...

The mixed layer is near the surface where the temperature is roughly that of surface water. In the thermocline, the temperature decreases rapidly from the mixed layer temperature to the much colder deep water temperature.

atmosphere-mixed layer ocean model"A model of the ocean-atmosphere system that consists of a general circulation model of the atmosphere coupled with a model of the oceanic mixed layer.

Transport WindThe average wind over a specified period of time within a mixed layer near the surface of the earth.Transverse BandsBands of clouds oriented perpendicular to the flow in which they are embedded.

A MIXED LAYER has a minimal temperature and / or moisture lapse rate with increasing altitude and is most common below the boundary layer. The mixed layer also is the most turbulent. Also called ML.

The process by which turbulent fluid within a mixed layer incorporates adjacent fluid that is nonturbulent, or much less turbulent; thus entrainment always proceeds toward the nonturbulent layer.

cloudy, translucent, mixed layers - these will define the various cloud regimes that the hail-stone has spent its life amongst.); the type of snow/pellets etc., and if possible, determine which portion of the cloud the ppn appeared to originate from.

EMLElevated Mixed LayerENDGEndingEnergy DissipatorIn hydrologic terms, a structure which slows fast-moving spillway flows in order to prevent erosion of the stream channel.

In general, a SST cooling is observed after the passing of a hurricane primarily as the result of mixed layer deepening and surface heat losses.

An example of a process is the vertical mixing of ocean waters in the so-called surface-mixed layer; the state variables for this process include temperature, salinity in the water on a vertical scale of tens of meters, ...

MIXED LAYER The layer of the water that is mixed through wave action or thermohaline convection. MIXED PRECIPITATION Any of the following combinations of freezing and frozen precipitation: snow and sleet, snow and freezing rain, or sleet alone.
