Near Infrared Electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths from just longer than the visible (about 0.7 micrometers) to about two micrometers. See electromagnetic spectrum.

It is sometimes referred to as 'near infrared' (NIR). CH3 images use a mixture of back-scattered solar radiation plus radiation emitted by the earth and atmosphere. It is used in fog/very low cloud studies.

7 microns, and most of the other half falls in the near infrared, a small additional portion falling in the ultraviolet. Solar radiation shield See radiation shield.
