overcast - 1. Descriptive of a sky cover of 1.0 (95% or more) when at least a portion of this amount is attributable to clouds or obscuring phenomena aloft; that is, ...

Overcast - sky cover classification describing a sky with 95% or more cloud cover ...

Overcast
Describes cloud cover when 8/8ths of the sky is covered in cloud.
Overhang ...

OVERCAST The amount of sky cover for a cloud layer that is 8/8ths, based on the summation layer amount for that layer.

Overcast (OVC) An official sky cover classification for aviation weather observations, when the sky is completely covered by an obscuring phenomenon.

OVERCAST: Sky condition when greater than 9/10 of the sky is covered. See Sky Terminology.
PACIFIC HIGH: A semipermanent anticyclone located in the Eastern North Pacific.

OVERCAST: Sky condition when greater than 9/10 of the sky is covered.
OZONE: A form of oxygen containing 3 molecules, usually found in the stratosphere, and responsible for filtering out much of the sun's ultraviolet radiation.

Overcast- when more than 9/10ths of the sky is covered with clouds.
Ozone- a form of oxygen in which the molecule is made of three atoms instead of the usual two. Ozone is a primary component of photochemical smog.

OVERCAST (OVC)- Cloudy.
PACKAGE- A compilation of analysis and forecast charts and their interpretation.
PBL- Planetary Boundary Layer. The lowest level of the atmosphere where friction is an important force and vertical mixing is common.

Overcast - When a widespread layer of clouds covers all of the sky. There may be thin or bright spots in the cloud layer, but no openings.

OVERCAST
greater than 90 percent of the sky covered by clouds
Clinometer, Alidade and Ceiling Projector Sometimes frustrated middle school or high school mathematics students will ask, "What good is this trigonometry, anyway?

5. Overcast or Cloudy 9/10 to 10/10 sky cover.

Base of Overcast
Bow Echo
A radar echo which is linear but bent outward in a bow shape. Damaging straight-line winds often occur near the "crest" or center of a bow echo.

central dense overcast"The region of dense cloud near the core of a tropical cyclone.

CEILING The lowest cloud layer that is reported as broken or overcast. If the sky is totally obscured, then it is the height of the vertical visibility. See measured ceiling and variable ceiling.

OvercastSky condition when greater than 9/10ths of the sky is covered by clouds. In Canada overcast means grey and dull skies, with extensive cloud cover.

CIGCeiling- The height of the lowest layer of clouds, when the sky is broken or overcast.CINConvective INhibition. A measure of the amount of energy needed in order to initiate convection.

Ceiling The height ascribed to the lowest layer of clouds or obscuring phenomena when it is reported as broken, overcast, or obscuration and not classified as "thin" or "partial.

The central dense overcast is the concentrated area of strong thunderstorm activity near the center of a tropical cyclone;[10] in weaker tropical cyclones, the CDO may cover the center completely.

CDO - Central Dense Overcast. The cirrus cloud shield that results from thunderstorms in the eye wall of a hurricane and its rainbands.

Ceiling - The height of the lowest layer of broken or overcast cloud layer.
Cold Front - The transition zone where a colder air mass overtakes and replaces a warmer air mass.

CEILING - The height above the ground of the lowest layer of clouds that is reported as broken or overcast and is not classified as thin or partial.
CENTER OF GRAVITY (CG) - The point where the total mass of the pilot and aircraft balances.

Stratus: The lowest clouds, generally found below 3000 metres altitude and often appearing as an overcast deck. Can also be found as scattered patches. Individual cloud elements have very ill-defined edges.

The height above the surface of the base of the lowest layer of clouds that obscures more than half the sky; reported for only broken and overcast sky cover. The ceiling may be estimated by visual means or measured by a ceilometer.

stratus clouds: a low cloud type that forms a gray layer with a uniform base. Does not usually produce precipitation. Overcast skies.
temperature inversion: when a layer of air has a temperature increase instead of decrease with altitude.

Clear skies allow 100% of the incoming UV radiation from the sun to reach the surface, whereas scattered clouds transmit 89%, broken clouds transmit 73%, and overcast conditions transmit 31%.

day could be termed 'sunny' even though more than half the sky may be covered in cirrus cloud.
Cloudy: Predominantly more cloud than clear sky for example, during the day the sun would be obscured by cloud for substantial periods of time.
