Prevailing Visibility The visibility that is considered representative of conditions at the station; the greatest distance that can be seen throughout at least half the horizon circle, not necessarily continuous.
prevailing visibility—In the U.S., the greatest horizontal visibility which is equaled or exceeded throughout half of the horizon circle; it need not be a continuous half.
Surface visibility is the prevailing visibility determined from the usual point of observation. Prevailing visibility is considered representative of visibility conditions at the station.
Tower Visibility: The prevailing visibility reported from an airport traffic tower. Townsend Support: A metal support whichs hold the maximun & minimum thermometers.
After visibilities have been determined around the entire horizon circle, they are resolved into a single value of prevailing visibility for reporting purposes.
