Profiler - An instrument designed to measure horizontal winds directly above its location, and thus measure the vertical wind profile. Profilers operate on the same principles as Doppler radar.
PROFILER A type of Doppler radar that typically measures both wind speed and direction from the surface to 55,000 feet in the atmosphere.
PROFILER- A remote ground-based sensing instrument that measures wind speed and direction at different levels of the atmosphere.
wind profiler"(Also called wind profiler radar, wind profiling radar.) A radar that is used to measure vertical profiles of the wind.
wind profiler The wind profiler is an array of Doppler radar units that measures and displays wind information (wind speed and direction) from the earth's surface up to an altitude of 16 km.
Wind profiler A Doppler radar capable of measuring the turbulent eddies that move with the wind. Because of this, it is able to provide a vertical picture of wind speed and wind direction.
Wind Profiler This is a three beam Doppler Radar system aimed vertically to measure atmospheric winds at different altitudes over a station.
PROFILER - A device for measuring the winds speeds and directions aloft. Also called a VAD or Velocity Azimuth Display.

We must caution that vertical wind profiles are subject to rapid space and time changes, and better observation systems such as profilers will be important in improving practical storm-type forecasting.

MST radars and wind profilers, which operate at longer wavelengths than weather radars, are able to detect echoes from optically clear air that are caused by spatial fluctuations of refractivity.
A type of wind profiler designed to measure winds and other atmospheric parameters up to altitudes of 100 km or more. MTBF Abbreviation for mean time between failures.
