Meteorology Pseudo-Warm FrontPulse

Psychrometer An instrument used for measuring the water vapor content of the atmosphere; a type of hygrometer.

psychrometer"An instrument used to measure humidity. It consists of two thermometers exposed side by side, one of which (the dry bulb) is an ordinary glass thermometer, ...

psychrometer
Any instrument used to measure the water vapor content of an air parcel (atmospheric humidity) by evaporative cooling of the air to its wet bulb temperature. Examples include a sling and an aspirated psychrometer.

PSYCHROMETER: Instrument consisting of a wet-bulb and a dry-bulb thermometer and used to measure the water vapor content of the air.
PYRANOMETER: Instrument which measures diffuse and direct solar radiation.

psychrometer—An instrument consisting of a wet-bulb and a dry-bulb thermometer for measuring wet-bulb and dry-bulb temperature; used to determine water vapor content of the air.

Psychrometer An instrument designed to measure dew point and relative humidity, consisting of two thermometers (one dry bulb and one wet bulb).

Sling psychrometer A psychrometer in which the wet and dry bulb thermometers are mounted upon a frame connected to a handle. The psychrometer may be whirled by hand in order to provided the necessary ventilation.

Sling Psychrometer
An instrument used to measure the water vapor content of the atmosphere in which wet and dry bulb thermometers are mounted on a frame connected to a handle at one end by means of a bearing or a length of chain.

Psychrometer- An instrument that measures relative humidity of the air.
Radar- Stands for "radio detection and ranging." An instrument that detects and ranges distant objects by measuring the scattering and reflection of radio beams.

PSYCHROMETER - An instrument for measuring dry and wet bulb temperatures for the computation of relative humidity.
PVA - Positive Vorticity Advection. Increased upward lift and vorticity in advance of an upper level disturbance / short wave.

HYPOTHERMIA
This situation occurs when the core temperature of one's body falls below normal. It is the failure of the body to maintain adequate production of heat under conditions of extreme cold.

Sling psychrometer Psychrometer to which a small chain or rotary handle is attached so that the observer can rotate the instrument rapidly to properly ventilate the thermometer bulbs. SNOTEL SNOw TELemetry.

"Relative Humidity"
What is Relative Humidity and how do we obtain it?

The thermal sensor in a psychrometer that is not moistened, but kept dry. The dry-bulb thermometer indicates or records the dry-bulb temperature. Contrast with wet-bulb thermometer.

Hygrometer An instrument which measures the water vapor content in the atmosphere. There are several different means of transduction used in measuring this quantity and hence various types of hygrometers. These are: a) the psychrometer, ...

The two thermometers may be placed in a Stevenson screen, or whirled together in a sling (sling psychrometer), or ventilated by drawing air past them with an electric fan (aspirating psychrometer).

Atmospheric Stability
air is stable if it is at the same density as surrounding air, so it will not tend to rise or fall but will tend to remain in place ...

Wet bulb temperature (Tw) - An easily measurable quantity (using a sling psychrometer) which indicates the effect of evaporative cooling on temperature; used to determine relative humidity.

Wet-bulb depression On a psychrometer, the difference in readings between the wet-bulb thermometer and the dry-bulb thermometer; used to determine relative humidity.

Psychrometric Tables These are tables used by meteorologists to determine measures of atmospheric water content (dewpoint, vapor pressure, or relative humidity) from the observed dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperature values taken with a psychrometer.

DRY BULB THERMOMETER A thermometer used to measure the ambient temperature. The temperature recorded is considered identical to air temperature. One of the two thermometers that make up a psychrometer.
