The land-based Siberian High often remains quasi-stationary for more than a month during the most frigid time of the year, making it unique in that regard.

A composite of two fronts, formed as a cold front overtakes a warm or quasi-stationary front. Two types of occlusions can form depending on the relative coldness of the air behind the cold front to the air ahead of the warm or stationary front.

Southern Oscillation Index An indicator based on the pressure gradient between the quasi-stationary low pressure region and the center of a subtropical high pressure cell.

stationary front - Same as quasi-stationary front.
statistic - Generally, a number describing some characteristic of a population or samples therefrom. Specifically, an estimate of a statistical parameter computed from a sample.

Normally, they occur when the 500 mb cyclonic circulation is quasi-stationary or moves slowly to the east or northeast (about 2° per 12 hours). The average surface temperature is 68°F with northeasterly winds.

overrunning"A condition existing when an air mass aloft is in motion relative to another air mass of greater density at the surface. This term is usually applied in the case of warm air ascending the surface of a warm front or quasi-stationary ...

Therefore, rather than racing ahead of the updraft to eventually choke it off, the gust front remains quasi-stationary relative to the moving storm and aids in continued lifting of warm air into the updraft.
