Rainforest

Meteorology RainfallRain-free Base

Rainforest: Lush forests growing in regions of high precipitation. Most well known are the tropical rainforests or jungles such as in the Amazon basin. Rainforests also grow along the northern Pacific coast of North America.

In a dry climate such as Australia's, there are only a few small areas along the east coast, and in Victoria and Tasmania, capable of supporting rainforest.

Many of the world's rainforests are associated with these climatological low pressure systems. Frontal lows are temperate zone phenomena, and develop along the polar front as a result of the interaction between cold and warm surface air masses.
