A Pilot Report (PIREP) is a report of weather conditions encountered by an aircraft during a flight. This information is usually relayed by radio to the nearest ground station.

Reporting Weather Conditions:
3) Below is a map of surface observations, and for each station that used a weather symbol in the station report, give the name of the city and the type of weather reported at that time.

Other reports try to tell us "the sky is falling" and the end of the world is near. But, the weather is the weather, an ever-changing part of the earth's natural environment.

Automated Event-Reporting Gage: River stage gages, IFLOWS pressure transducer type gages can be programmed to report if water surface rises or falls by a predetermined amount. See Tipping Bucket Rain Gage.

A trace of rain is reported by rainfall observers when a little precipitation can be seen in the rain gauge, but there is less than 0.1 mm in total.

Blowing sandSand particles picked up from the surface of the earth by the wind to moderate heights above the ground, reducing the reported horizontal visibility to less than seven statute miles.

In observing, sand is reported when particles of sand are raised to sufficient height that reduces visibility. It is reported as "SA" in an observation and on the METAR. SANDSTORM A strong wind carrying sand particles through the air.

GDROn a buoy report, direction, in degrees clockwise from true North, of the GSP, reported at the last hourly 10-minute segment.

Data Quality Assessment Report (DQAR)An assessment report issued by the Data Quality Office and/or instrument mentors based on a data quality inspection.

Often a severe weather season will come and go without a single F5 tornado reported. However, about 80% of all tornadoes deaths are the result of the F3, F4 and F5 tornadoes. These storms are much less common, but much more dangerous.

There is now one operating at the MSP airport, reporting air temperature, cloud ceiling, visibility, dew point, and wind among other things. Forecasters use the frequent ASOS reports to refine and update forecasts.

weather observing procedure, a thunderstorm is reported whenever thunder is heard at the station; it is reported on regularly scheduled observations if thunder is heard within 15 minutes preceding the observation.

These are mainly F0 and F1, with only a few F3's reported, and no F4's or F5's. The Netherlands is second with 35 per year. There are probably as many as 700 tornadoes a year in all of Europe, though only some 330 are reported.

Daily Climatological Report As the name indicates, this climatological product is issued daily by each National Weather Service office.

The cold front associated with these storms can be studies for thunderstorm and tornado development, while the backside of a winter storm can be chased so a snow storm report can be done.

A system of estimating and reporting wind speeds. It is based on the Beaufort Force or Number, which is composed of the wind speed, a descriptive term, and the visible effects upon land objects and/or sea surfaces.
