Rotor cloud
A rotor (cloud) is a closed, vertical circulation that develops in the lee of high mountain barriers, or in the valley between two mountain ranges, when conditions are appropriate. The rotor is a form of lee eddy.

rotor cloud"(Sometimes called roll cloud.) A turbulent, altocumulus-type cloud formation found in the lee of some large mountain barriers, particularly in the Sierra Nevada near Bishop, California.

ROTOR CLOUD An altocumulus cloud formation that can be found in the lee of a mountain or similar barrier. The air rotates around a horizontal axis, creating turbulence. Altocumulus lenticularis is an example.

Rotor Cloud A turbulent cloud formation found in the lee of some large mountain barriers. The air in the cloud rotates around an axis parallel to the mountain range.

Rotor cloud A turbulent cumuliform type of cloud that forms on the leeward side of large mountain ranges. The air in the cloud rotates about an axis parallel to the range.

Rotor cloud - tubes lying downwind along a mountain range.
Stratocumulus - stratus + cumulus. Is it one or the other? Both. Low altitude mounds imbedded in a layer.
Stratus - Grey flannel blanket of cloud.

ROTOR CLOUD - A horizontal roll-cloud forming along or near a rotor region. See also ROTOR.

cloud formations which appear to be shaped by a smooth flow of air traveling in parallel layers or sheets.

ROTGRotatingRotor CloudA turbulent altocumulus cloud formation found in the lee of some mountain barriers when winds cross the barrier at high speed. The air in the cloud rotates around an axis parallel to the range. Also called a roll cloud.
