Siberian high"(Or Siberian anticyclone.) An area of high pressure that forms over Siberia in winter and that is particularly apparent on mean charts of sea level pressure.
SIBERIAN HIGH The semi-permanent high pressure area that forms over Siberia during the winter. The average central pressure exceeds 1030 millibars from late November to early March. It is characterized by clear, dry weather.
The land-based Siberian High often remains quasi-stationary for more than a month during the most frigid time of the year, making it unique in that regard.
Clockwise flow around the Siberian high in winter drives winds over the Himalayas onto India and the Indian Ocean. These winds are continental polar air, dry and cold. When summer comes, the high disappears and is replaced by low pressure.
