Meteorology SimulationSkew t-log p diagram

Sirocco A warm wind of the Mediterranean area, either a foehn or a hot southerly wind in advance of a low pressure area moving from the Sahara or Arabian deserts. Called LEVECHE in Spain.

chili"A warm, dry, descending wind in Tunisia, resembling the sirocco. In southern Algeria it is called chichili.
chill factor"See wind-chill factor, wind-chill index.

This southeast wind is called the Sirocco in Italy. A wind in the opposite direction is the Mistral of Mediterranean France, a cold northwest wind. These are simply a few famous examples of named seasonal winds.

Winds it is represented by a bare-legged young man carrying a piece of a trireme. This may indicate either that the wind favored home-coming ships or that, when stormy, it caused wrecks. Today the name is applied to any hot wind, usually the sirocco.

Sirocco (southerly from north Africa to southern Europe)
Tramontane (northeasterly from the Alps to the Mediterranean)
Vendavel (westerly through Strait of Gibraltar)
Zonda wind (on the eastern slope of the Andes in Argentina) ...
