Sleet frozen raindrops that bounce on impact with the ground
Sleet is less prevalent than freezing rain and is defined as frozen raindrops that bounce on impact with the ground or other objects.

Sleet In the United States, frozen raindrops that bound on impact with the ground. Elsewhere, may refer to a mix of rain and snow, a mix of rain and hail, or melting snow.

sleet"1. See ice pellets. 2. In British terminology, and colloquially in some parts of the United States, precipitation in the form of a mixture of rain and snow.

Sleet - frozen or partly frozen falling rain; ice pellets
Smog - a natural fog made heavier and darker by smoke and chemical fumes ...

Sleet
Generally refers to a mixture of rain and snow or falling snow that is melting into rain.

Sleet - raindrops that freeze before hitting the earth.
Snow - Large flat ice crystals that hook onto each other and make white flakes.

Sleet: Precipitation composed of already frozen droplets - ice pellets - that bounce on impact. Outside the United States, sleet also refers to precipitation with a mixture of rain and snow or rain and ice pellets or quickly melting snow.

Sleet - Frozen precipitation that falls as little chunks o' ice.
Sounding - A temperature profile of the atmosphere measured by a radiosonde.  Also can indicate wind and dew point.

Sleet (Ice Pellets)- defined as pellets of ice composed of frozen or mostly frozen raindrops or refrozen partially melted snowflakes. These pellets of ice usually bounce after hitting the ground or other hard surfaces.

Sleet- Precipitation consisting of ice particles formed when raindrops freeze.
Smog- Air pollution caused by a mixture of smoke and fog.
Snow- Precipitation consisting of clumps of ice crystals.

SLEET: A type of frozen precipitation, consisting of small transparent pellets.
SLIGHT CHANCE: In probability of precipitation statements, usually equivalent to a 20 percent chance.
SMALL CRAFT: Generally a vessel under 65 feet in length.

Sleet (PL) Describes solid grains of ice formed by the freezing of raindrops or the refreezing of largely melted snowflakes. These grains usually bounce upon impact with the ground or pavement.

Sleet- a mixture of rain and snow that fall when the temperature is around the freezing level.
Small Craft Advisory- a marine advisory issued for sustained winds and/or frequent gusts greater than twenty ><>callurl("http://www.nw-weathernet.com/wx_terms.htm");StartAdv();

Sleet Warning - It's issued when accumulations of sleet in excess of a half inch are expected. This is very rare.
Slush - It's snow or ice on the ground that has been reduced to a soft, watery mixture by rain or warm temperatures.

Sleet
Depending on the region, precipitation of rain or snow mixed, or rain and hail, or rain and ice pellets, or melting snow, or sudden and brief rainfall with wind and hail.

SLEET- Ice Pellets, rain that freezes before reaching earth's surface

SLEET - Solid grains of ice which form from the freezing of raindrops or the refreezing of melted snowflakes. These small, transparent ice pellets usually bounce when they hit a hard surface.

sleet—See ice pellets.
smog—A mixture of smoke and fog.
smoke—A restriction to visibility resulting from combustion.

Sleet: in the U.S., a term used to describe tiny ice pellets that are formed when rain or partially melted snowflakes refreeze before reaching the ground.

Sleet(6)
A type of precipitation consisting of transparent pellets of ice 5 mm or less in diameter. Same as ice pellets.
Smog(6) ...

Sleet- Rain drops that freeze into ice pellets before reaching the ground. Sleet usually bounces when hitting a surface and does not stick to objects.

ICE STORM
A severe weather condition characterized by falling freezing precipitation. Such a storm forms a glaze on objects, creating hazardous travel conditions and utility problems.

Ice pellets See Sleet
Indian summer An unseasonably warm spell with clear skies near the middle of autumn. Usually follows a substantial period of cool weather.

PrecipitationThe process where water vapor condenses in the atmosphere to form water droplets that fall to the Earth as rain, sleet, snow, hail, etc.

SLEET Also known as ice pellets, it is winter precipitation in the form of small bits or pellets of ice that rebound after striking the ground or any other hard surface. It is reported as "PE" in an observation and on the METAR.

Sleet Frozen or partly frozen rain. Sling psychrometer Psychrometer to which a small chain or rotary handle is attached so that the observer can rotate the instrument rapidly to properly ventilate the thermometer bulbs. SNOTEL SNOw TELemetry.

Water falls from the clouds as rain, hail, sleet, graupel, snow, etc., and runs off and through soils to form creeks, streams, rivers, and lakes. In its solid form, it is referred to as ice or snow. Water as a liquid and as ice covers 70.

This includes snow, rain, sleet, freezing rain, hail, and virga. Precipitation is a major part of the hydrologic cycle, and is responsible for depositing most of the fresh water on the planet.

If the air passes over the sea (or similarly warm surface), then the sensible flux of heat to the air above will raise the ZDL, perhaps tipping the balance towards rain or sleet, ...

Acid precipitation: precipitation, as rain, snow or sleet containing relatively high concentrations of acid-forming chemicals that have been released into the atmosphere and combined with water vapor; harmful to the environment.

A disturbance of the atmosphere marked by wind and usually by rain, snow, hail, sleet, or thunder and lightning. In marine usage, winds 48 knots (55 mph) or greater.

MIXED PRECIPITATION
Any of the following combinations of freezing and frozen precipitation: snow and sleet, snow and freezing rain, or sleet alone. Rain may also be present.

Moisture that is released from the atmosphere as rain, drizzle, hail, sleet or snow, as well as dew and fog.

precipitation: any form of water particles that fall from the clouds and reach the ground. Examples are rain, snow, sleet, and hail. Fog, dew, frost, and clouds are not forms of precipitation.

Precipitation - The precipitation of water from the atmosphere in the form of hail, mist, rain, sleet, and snow. Deposits of dew, fog, and frost are excluded.

Winter Weather Advisory This product is issued by the National Weather Service when a low pressure system produces a combination of winter weather (snow, freezing rain, sleet, etc.) that present a hazard, but does not meet warning criteria.

Sleet: Pellets of ice that form when rain or melting snowflakes freeze while falling. (Occurs in cold weather; hail usually occurs in summer.)
Freezing Rain: Rain that turns to ice on impact with the surface.
Rain: Extended period of precipitation.

Snippin This term is used by the English and Scottish to refer to a type of biting snow, usually composed of small, wind-driven snow crystals or sleet which stings when they strike exposed skin such as the face or hands.

of snow encased in a thin layer of ice which have formed from the freezing of droplets intercepted by pellets or water resulting from the partial melting of pellets. It is reported as "PE" in an observation and on the METAR. Related term: sleet ...
