Storm Surge a concern to coastal residents
One major cause of hurricane damage is storm surge. Storm surge is the rising of the sea level due to the low pressure, high winds, and high waves associated with a hurricane as it makes landfall.
Storm-scale - Referring to weather systems with sizes on the order of individual thunderstorms. See synoptic scale, mesoscale.
Storm moon occurs in March and is responsible for shifting weather patterns in the northern hemisphere. Fluxes in the gravitational field causes pressure to shift and move in a easterly direction.
Storm Track- The path that storms generally follow in a given area.
Sublimation- The change of water vapor directly into ice crystals or ice crystals directly into water vapor.
Storm Damage
According to Emergency Management Australia, severe thunderstorms cause more damage in Australia each year than any other natural hazard, and the damage bill in individual cases has gone into the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Storm-Relative Velocity - the wind velocity minus storm motion. The wind at a given location may be the combination of the environmental flow plus winds due to a thunderstorm.

Storm Surge
An abnormal rise in sea level accompanying a hurricane or other intense storm, and whose height is the difference between the observed level of the sea surface and the level that would have occurred in the absence of the cyclone.
Storm surge: The dome of water that builds up as a hurricane moves over water. As this water comes ashore with the storm, it causes flooding that is usually a hurricane's biggest killer.

storm surge, swash, and backwash These terms all refer to actions of ocean waters as they erode shorelines and beaches. A storm surge is produced by the wind action of large storms such as hurricanes.

HP Storm
or HP Supercell - High-Precipitation storm (or High-Precipitation supercell). A supercell thunderstorm in which heavy precipitation (often including hail) falls on the trailing side of the mesocyclone.
duststorm"(Or dust storm; also called duster, black blizzard.) An unusual, frequently severe weather condition characterized by strong winds and dust-filled air over an extensive area.

Thunderstorm - A local storm (accompanied by lightning and thunder) produced by a cumulonimbus cloud, usually with gusty winds, heavy rain, and sometimes hail. Non-severe thunderstorms rarely have lifetimes over two hours.

Ice StormAn ice storm is used to describe occasions when damaging accumulations of ice are expected during freezing rain situations. Significant accumulations of ice pull down trees and utility lines resulting in loss of power and communication.
AIR MASS THUNDERSTORM
A thunderstorm that is produced by convection within an unstable air mass through an instability mechanism.
Air-Mass Thunderstorm - A localized thunderstorm that forms in a warm, moist, unstable air mass. Most frequent in the afternoon in spring and summer.
