STREAMLINES- Arrows showing wind speed and direction. The head of the arrow points toward where the wind is blowing and the length of the arrow is proportional to the wind speed. Sometimes shows wind direction and trajectory only.

Streamlines This word refers to the pattern of air flow or wind moving horizontallly at a given level in the atmosphere.

A pure stretching deformation field (u = a0x, v = −a0y) is characterized by rectangular hyperbolic streamlines.

Dividing StreamlineIn the blocked flow region upwind of a mountain barrier, the streamline that separates the blocked flow region near the ground from the streamlines above which go over the barrier.

Water flowing through a bend in a river must follow curved streamlines to remain within the banks of the river. The water surface is slightly higher near the concave bank than near the convex bank.

steady state - (Also called steady motion, stationary motion.) A fluid motion in which the velocities at every point of the field are independent of time; streamlines and trajectories are identical.

An eddy that forms near the ground on the windward or leeward side of a bluff object or steeply rising hillside; streamlines above this eddy go over the object.
Serial Derecho ...

Vortex In its most general use, any flow possessing vorticity. More often the term refers to a flow with closed streamlines.

Vortex - An atmospheric feature that tends to rotate. It has vorticity and usually has closed streamlines.

In additional to geopotential height, these can charts are also used to display a variety of parameters such as streamlines, vorticity, moisture, temperature and so on.Also known as a constant pressure surface.

ridge line)—In meteorology, an elongated area of relatively high atmospheric pressure; usually associated with and most clearly identified as an area of maximum anticyclonic curvature of the wind flow (isobars, contours, or streamlines).

Separation EddyAn eddy that forms near the ground on the windward or leeward side of a bluff object or steeply rising hillside; streamlines above this eddy go over the object.
