Taiga The northern coniferous forest; also a name applied to the subarctic climate.
Taiga "Taiga" is a Russian word (pronounced "ti-ga") used to refer to the Boreal woodlands or open forest which lies just south of the tundra in high latitudes. It consists of coniferous trees growing in cold and swampy soils occupied by lichens.
Subpolar climate A climate observed in the Northern Hemisphere that borders the polar climate. It is characterized by severely cold winters and short, cool summers. Also known as taiga climate and boreal climate.
