Meteorology TransmissometerTranspiration

TRANSPARENT A condition where a material is clear enough not to block the passage of radiant energy, especially light.

Transparent or partially opaque particles of ice that range in size from that of a pea to that of golf balls.
Hair hygrometer(6) ...

Water - a transparent, odorless, tasteless liquid; composed of hydrogen and oxygen.

Glaze: Transparent and homogeneous ice forming on vertical and horizontal surfaces by the freezing of supercooled water. The amorphous, dense structure of glaze helps it to cling tenaciously to any surface.

Hailstones Transparent or partially opaque particles of ice that range in size from that of a pea to that of golf balls.

Because it is a transparent liquid the sea is warmed by the sun to a greater depth than the land.

A transparent, colorless, odorless, and tasteless liquid found near the surface of the earth. In the lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere of the earth, water is found as a gas, liquid, and solid.

Cirrostratus
Transparent, whitish cloud veil of fibrous (hair-like) or smooth appearance totally or partially covering the sky, and generally producing halo phenomena.

Cirrus clouds typically have a fibrous or hairlike appearance, and often are semi-transparent. Thunderstorm anvils are a form of cirrus cloud, but most cirrus clouds are not associated with thunderstorms.

CHROMOSPHERE A thin layer of relatively transparent gases above the photosphere of the sun. It is observed best during a total eclipse of the sun. CIRCULATION The flow or motion of a fluid in or through a given area or volume.

Ice pelletsPrecipitation of transparent or translucent pellets of ice, which are round or irregular, rarely conical, and which have a diameter of 0.2 inch (five millimeters), or less. There are two main types.

Mostly ClearWhen the 1/8th to 2/8ths of the sky is covered by with opaque (not transparent) clouds. Sometimes referred to as Mostly Sunny if this condition is present during daylight hours.

These " radiatively active " gases are relatively transparent to incoming shortwave radiation, but are relatively opaque to outgoing longwave radiation.

Signals can exist in many different forms and media (electrical/wires, acoustic/air, light/transparent fibers, etc.), but all signals will vary with time. The signal shape plotted as a function of time is called the waveshape or waveform.

Ice Pellects: Transparent or translucent round or irregular shapes pellets of ice having a 0.2 inch (5mm)or less. 4.Rain: Falls is the forms of drops larger than 0.02 inch (0.5 mm) 5.Snow: Ice crystals which have six points. 6.

In hydrologic terms, transparent ice formed in rivers and lakes.BlackbodyA hypothetical "body" that absorbs all of the electromagnetic radiation striking it - it does not reflect or transmit any of the incident radiation.

clear ice"(Or clear icing.) Smooth compact rime, usually transparent, fairly amorphous, with a ragged surface, and morphologically resembling glaze. This term has two different major applications. 1) Most commonly, ...

Cirrostratus Clouds sheet-like and nearly transparent
Cirrostratus are sheet-like, high-level clouds composed of ice crystals.

Greenhouse effect Although nearly transparent to solar radiation, the atmosphere is much less transparent to infrared radiation.

clear icing (or clear ice)—Generally, the formation of a layer or mass of ice which is relatively transparent because of its homogeneous structure and small number and size of air spaces; used commonly as synonymous with glaze, ...

LAND SPOUT - A type of tornado denoted by a nearly transparent "tube" appearance developing under a convective cloud, such as a thunderstorm.

greenhouse gas: gases in the atmosphere that are more transparent to the short wavelength radiation (mostly visible light) from the sun, than to the long wavelength radiation (infrared radiation) leaving the Earth.

Sleet - Precipitation consisting of transparent pellets of ice, 5 millimeters or less in diameter. Also called ice pellets.

Clear ice A layer of ice that appears transparent because of its homogeneous structure and small number and size of air pockets.
Climate The accumulation of daily and seasonal weather events over a long period of time.

Latin - to shine through, transparent
Clouds that cover a large part of the sky and are sufficiently thin to reveal the position of the sun or moon.
Transpiration ...

SLEET: A type of frozen precipitation, consisting of small transparent pellets.
SLIGHT CHANCE: In probability of precipitation statements, usually equivalent to a 20 percent chance.
SMALL CRAFT: Generally a vessel under 65 feet in length.

Cirrostratus (Cs) A principal high-level cloud type (cloud genus), appearing as a transparent, whitish cloud veil of fibrous (hair-like) or smooth appearance, totally or partially covering the sky, and often producing halo phenomena, ...

Cirrostratus
High level, transparent sheet or white veil, not rippled like cirrocumulus. Causes a halo (ring) to form around the sun.

When the predominant/average sky condition is covered 3/8 to 4/8 with opaque (not transparent) clouds. Same as Partly Cloudy.
Pascal
The unit of pressure produced when one newton acts on one square meter (1 N/m2). It is abbreviated Pa.

A type of frozen precipitation, consisting of small transparent pellets.

Atmospheric Window - Refers to the fact that the troposphere is transparent (i.e. does not absorb) to terrestrial radiation between 8 and 12 micrometers in length.

Mostly Sunny: When the predominant/average sky condition is covered 1/8 to 2/8 with opaque (not transparent) clouds. Same as Mostly Clear.
Movable Bed: A stream bed made up of materials readily transportable by the stream flow.

Horn cards were transparent disks with diagrams etched on each side to show average wind directions associated with pressure falls in a tropical cyclone.

BLACK ICE Thin, new ice on fresh or salt water that appears dark in color because of its transparency. Also refers to thin, transparent ice on road surfaces.

SLEET - Solid grains of ice which form from the freezing of raindrops or the refreezing of melted snowflakes. These small, transparent ice pellets usually bounce when they hit a hard surface.

The thermometer is placed in an evacuated transparent chamber which is maintained at a constant temperature. The instrument responds to insolation, modified by the transmission characteristics of its container.
