The Center prepares and distributes hurricane watches and warnings for the general public, and also prepares and distributes marine and military advisories for other users. During the "off-season" NHC provides training for U.S.

"The voice of the National Weather Service" - NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts National Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day. It is provided as a public service by NOAA.

National Hurricane Center - They issue watches, warnings, forecasts, and analyses of hazardous tropical weather.

Severe weather watches often have a boxed region (areal box) associated with them and an expiration time. Hurricane (or typhoon) watches are issued 36 hours before the possible affect from the core of the system.

"Box"comes from the shape a watch usually takes. It is that of a rectangle or a parallelogram when plotted on a map. The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma issues such severe weather watches.
