zonal flow - (Also called zonal circulation.) In meteorology, the flow of air along a latitude circle; more specifically, the latitudinal (east or west) component of existing flow. Compare meridional flow; see zonal index.
Zonal flow Large-scale atmospheric flow in which the east-west component (i.e., latitudinal) is dominant. The accompanying meridional (north-south) component often is weaker than normal. Compare with meridional flow.
Zonal flow Component of atmospheric circulation along a line of latitude, towards the east or west. Atmospheric circulation along, or approximately along, parallels of latitude ...
Zonal Flow - permalink - collapse All > Science > Weather Large-scale atmospheric flow in which the east-west component (i.e., latitudinal) is dominant. The accompanying meridional (north-south) component often is weaker than normal.
ZONAL FLOW The flow of air along a latitudinal component of existing flow, normally from west to east. Related term: meridional flow ...
Zonal Flow: Large-scale atmospheric flow in which the east-west component, i.e., flow parallel to the latitude lines, is much greater than the meridional (north-south) component. Compare with meridional flow.
ZONAL FLOW- Flow of wind equal or nearly equal to the lines of latitude. ZONE FORECAST- A forecast for a particular region (often a forecast for certain cities, counties or parishes). ZL- Freezing Drizzle ...
Zonal flow pattern Flow of the planetary-scale westerlies almost directly from west to east; westerlies exhibit little amplitude.

Zonal Flow - It's when the winds in the upper levels of the atmosphere blow from coast to coast with little or no deviation. In other words, the jest stream creates a straight line.
This weakens the zonal flow. MESOCYCLONE A area of rotation of storm size that may be found on the southwest part of a supercell. Its circulation is much larger than the tornado that may develop within it.
A west wind. Zonal Flow: A west to east movement of air masses. Zonda: A Fohen (Warm Wind) that is located in the mountain valleys of Argentina, South America. ZL: Freezing Drizzle. ZR: Freezing Rain.
MERIDIONAL FLOW Atmospheric circulation in which the north and south, or meridional, component of motion is unusually pronounced. This weakens the zonal flow.
Large-scale atmospheric flow in which the north-south component (i.e., longitudinal, or along a meridian) is pronounced. The accompanying zonal (east-west) component often is weaker than normal. Compare with zonal flow. Meso ...
Meridional Flow: Large-scale atmospheric flow in which the north-south component (i.e., longitudinal, or along a meridian) is pronounced. The accompanying zonal (east-west) component often is weaker than normal. Compare with zonal flow.

Compare with zonal flow.MESOMesocyclone- A storm-scale region of rotation, typically around 2-6 miles in diameter and often found in the right rear flank of a supercell (or often on the eastern, or front, flank of an HP storm).
