Accommodation trains are the locals of the passenger trains. They stop at each station and allow a passenger the ability to stop at an out of the way town where the limiteds only breeze through.

chair car — a passenger car which does not provide lounge, dining or sleeping accommodations. Usually used to refer to coach, but may be used by some when referring to parlor cars.

I would also bet that the housing accommodations in such institutions are far less than what I have grown accustomed to at my humble abode here in Indiana.

Some people called them "accommodation" trains. In the Redwood Empire we had many dairies, and some local passenger trains handled the milk cans--transporting a perishable necessity to the cities.

A self-propelled railway vehicle in which no accommodation for a pay load is provided, and which is capable of providing the motive power for other vehicles coupled to it.

Grounded van or coach
A condemned van or coach that has been recycled. Instead of throwing it out someone has taken it off the tracks, mounted it on blocks, and used it for storage, accommodation, etc.
