Airbrushing is a valuable tool for many applications in model railroading, including painting models and scenery - e.g., structures, bridges, model trains (locomotives and rail cars), tracks, trees, rocks, mountains, backdrops, ground cover, etc.
Airbrush: A miniature paint sprayer that gives a controlled application of thinned paint. Articulated: locomotive with a jointed frame that is flexible in at least one direction.

Airbrush and some paint Painting Good paint is only as good as the surface to which it is applied. Painting wood is much different from painting metal or plastic. At any rate, good surface prepration is key.

If your paint is too thick to feed through the airbrush, try diluting it with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. The alcohol thins the paint while it is in the airbrush, but evaporates soon after leaving it.
Follow up by airbrush or spray paint. Several thin, even coats are better than one thick coat. If you're good with a brush, touch up details. Bronze is good for painting bells. Steel, gunmetal and silver can be used for whistles and handrails.
A very easy way to weather a freight car without using an airbrush is this.
This is the same rule as with airbrushing. I heard a rumor that the blue foam board doesn't produce toxic gases when cut with a hot wire tool. I don't believe this rumor at all and I would not take any chances with my lungs.
Start by mixing a suitable color such as "brick red" or "stone gray" and apply it with a brush or better still, an airbrush. Gloss or enamel paints may work best for this part of the process.
Do you glue down the cork, tack the flextrack in place, sprinkle on the ballast and think the right of way is complete? You airbrush some weathering on the rails. Good going! ...
I use Floquil Rail Brown paint on the track and ties. I found that I had more control by brushing the paint. You might prefer to use an airbrush or spray with aerosol. This is solvent based paint. Be sure to provide adequate ventilation.
