Articulated locomotive
A locomotive which is made up of several units, with each unit being pivoted to the next unit. Each unit is on a separate frame which is free to swivel relative to the frame of the next unit.

Articulated Locomotive
A steam-powered locomotive with two separate sets of wheels and cylinders each of which pivots on separate frames beneath a single boiler. Certain types of electrically-powered locomotives may also be articulated.

Articulated Locomotive
Any locomotive featuring two or engines (i.e. cylinders, rods, and wheels) under one boiler, mounted on separate or hinged frames. Permits large locomotives to snake around curves more easily.

Mallet: type of articulated locomotive designed by Anatole Mallet ("Mallee"). See "Compound Engine" above.

Fairlie: A type of articulated locomotive, typically (but not exclusively) with two boilers and connected fireboxes in a central cab.
Fallen flag (US): A railroad which is defunct, having either merged or discontinued operations.

Mallet - An articulated steam locomotive named after the designer; sometimes used to describe any articulated locomotive.
Markers - Flags or lights used on trains to indicate special status or to warn of a following section.

Articulated locomotives have wheels arrangements such as 2-8-8-4 or 4-6-6-4. Articulated rolling stock, such as certain types of passenger cars and double-stack cars, share trucks between adjacent car bodies.
